A Poem: Shadows

There is my shadow
dancing on the wall.

That we each have shadows
that cannot be caught,

elusive dreams,

feelings we must think about
to attempt to understand,

to then throw up our hands.

That we have these shadows,
that take our feelings for a spin,

and sink them to the ground
as collapsing lovers,

knowing nothing but the world pivoting
and then standing momentarily still.

That we each have shadows
is the truth I now see,

by candlelight
and haphazard thought

and dancing flames upon the wall.
