A Poem: Division

Roads are made to be walked.
Seas to be parted
where they divide with the land.

Seeds to break,
and burst
so their growth can commence.

Flower buds to
blossom and bloom
that their beauty may pour forth.

And we,
we are like the African Lily’s bud.
We start out small

but with a pre-conceived design,
we grow
and push at the seams of our covering.

Until at a time
set by a clock only Nature knows
we break open to fruition.

Roads are made to be walked.
Not stood upon.
We were not made just to look forward.

But to trust
the process which is subject
to laws larger than us.

To trust in the sea
how it meets the land
and wraps around it.

To notice the seed
how it grows from nothing
to become the harvest in our hand.

“For he divided the sea before them, and led them through!
The water stood banked up upon both sides of them! In the daytime he led them by a cloud, and at night by a pillar of fire. He split open the rocks in the wilderness to give them plenty of water, as though gushing from a spring. Streams poured from the rock, flowing like a river.”
Psalm 78:13-17
