A Poem: Prayer

Do my prayers find you?
I do not know,
but I know I feel better for the praying.

Do my prayers reach heaven?
I cannot say,
except that I see things changing.

Do I hear you and not my own voice?
I can’t confirm,
yet I know my wisdom is not yours.

Do I believe in a deity outside me,
that holds my life
as precious?

Or do I believe more
in a power within
that sustains me from the inside?

I do know
that when I wake
I breathe in unison with another,

that at once hears the prayers I breathe
and those I think,
before they are even uttered.

I know because I feel known.
And that the prayers I speak to reach you,
find me.

And the prayers I lift to heaven
echo far
in the chambers of my interior.

And the prayers others offer for me
find me quickening within
to a moving,

that can only be your presence.
Lord, whose name is wisdom,
and Prince of Wholeness

Welcome.

‘For a child has been born—for us!  The gift of a son—for us!
He’ll take over the running of the world.  His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness.  His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings.’
