A Poem: Finding Yourself

Finding yourself
is not so hard.

There are pieces of us
everywhere.

Each day,
we can select.

A bit of blue,

duck-pond from a
languid sky,

or turn around

and retrieve
a little steel

from the cold front’s
ragged edge.

Hear,
the silence

or tune your ear
to the birds,

the crickets,
or cicadas

or even the plane heading,
who knows where?

But just imagine.

Write, or draw,
walk,

walk into yourself
like a person attiring themselves

for the day
with new clothes.

‘What does it feel like
to be me today?

we can ask,
and then

feel, hear,
see what emerges.

Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Every day, I walk myself into a state of well-being…I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it.
~ Soren Kierkegaard
