Anyone know?
How to live in the world and
not carry it close.
How to live in the world and not
grasp it tight.
How to bring the lightest touch
to bear.
How to love one another and
not live another’s life.
How to love one another
and allow each other autonomy.
How to trust the world with the things
most important
to us.
Yes, how to live in the world at all
sometimes seems a test too hard to fathom.
Faith, a thing with wings long flown
in the moments it is needed.
Or perhaps it is there yet underneath,
and we don’t recognise it as silent resilience.
Maybe.
So, anyone know?
How to live in the world
when love is a rock in the chest sinking.
And trust a thing abandoned
when we picked up fear.
And fear, with the way it adheres
with stubborn talons.
How to live strong yet
and free?

Oh thank you, I wrote this when my daughter moved away, she is back now. The heart opens up and closes and hurts and heals, an endless cycle.
