A Poem: Hospitable

There is nowhere to hide.
To live hospitable to ourselves and others,
is to receive ourselves whole.
To give ourselves broken.

To be fallible, to be alive.
To live hospitable to each other
is to open our cupboards and drawers.
To see inside, to lay it out empty.

To say, ‘this is what I have, and what I don’t’.
These are the hopes for which I strive.
This place of struggle is still a place of wings,
of overcoming.’

The thing about love,
is it always rises from ashes.
To live hospitable is to allow the burning.
Be swallowed whole, come out the other side.
