A Poem: More

To do, when you want more.

Sit down and feel the ground.
Feel how it is moving and not moving.
Breathe and feel your lungs,
how they expand and contract without your notice.
Know that more is as much waiting for you
as you are looking for it.
It may seem like little is happening
but the tide coming in and out.
It may seem little is moving
but you going around in circles.
But perhaps that is the way of momentum,
the planet on its axis,
the moment on its cusp.
Sit there and let more fall into your lap,
as the juice of the watermelon split open.
That its hard roundness
contains such sweetness within
is always a surprise.
Somehow like the moment
tapping us on the shoulder,
reminding us how it is all there is.

When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come,
I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds,
cleanses me with its noise, and imposes
a rhythm upon everything in me
that is bewildered and confused.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke

My life has been the poem I would have writ
But I could not both live and utter it.
~ Henry David Thoreau

“All storytellers know that two types of time exist: one is the twenty-four hours, the school run, the bill-paying, forever catching-up time of our everyday world; but behind that looms the energies of mythic time, the great cycles that pulse from generation to generation. These great wheels infuse the everyday with nourishment, ‘eternity in a grain of sand.’ The philosopher Plotinus suggested that while the body favors a straight line, the soul hankers for the circle. This mythic, circular time, (which is really no kind of time at all) laughs at the straight line and the alarm clock. Without it- even with all the riches of the world- we can enter the arena of the meaningless. As markets collapse and the world heats up, we would do well to see Coyote’s claws opening holes between the two. We live in an era of tremendous possibility.”
~ Martin Shaw

“Be here, no matter what’s going on inside of you, no matter what’s happening in your life, be here fully.” ~ Panache Desai

“The future is not some place we are going, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made. And the activity of making them changes both the maker and their destination.”
~ John Schaar
