A Poem: A Bridge

When angry feelings arrive, let them pass.
Don’t adhere to them,
though they appeal with their arguments,
seem to fit your situation.

Let the angry feelings settle down
as unruffled dogs at the hearth.
That when they sleep
we might quietly get up, move on.

When loving feelings arrive,
as they often do after turmoil,
reach out fast,
hold to them tight.

Let them build a bridge
of fine transparent material,
deceptive in its strength,
flexible in give.

And when peaceful feelings follow,
as they tend to
upon the relinquishment of control,
let them build their own moats.

This Kingdom of our beings
is where faith seeds and grows,
where hope turns solid,
where everyone who crosses

must walk upon love’s bridge.
