A Poem: You and the Day

You and the day.
Always arriving at one another.
Always an alchemy of sorts.
What the day has in store,
how you meet it
prepared or not.

Waking with your old aches,
your fresh hurts.
Feeling your way in,
each limb a weight tested.
Each stretch a hopeful reach.

How this day does not need to be told
where you’re at.
How it’s already acutely aware
of what you have to bring to it.
How it will make 100 allowances
for everything you cannot do.

How the day is not just a blank canvas,
indifferent.
But a welcoming mat,
a creative and encouraging accomplice.
Even the painful or unexpected,
anointed in some way,
with the beautiful.

  1. You say it exactly…I arise at 5am each day just to have the a couple of hours of deep silence, the only time of the day…your words give flesh to that soul/heart focused time of blessing…
