A Poem: A Fresh Sweep

At the end of the day God says:
I shall wipe it afresh.

That even a good day is now a mirage,
a reflection in the memory.
His hand fallen,
that we are only left with
impressions, the indent of a hug
in its touch upon the heart.

We remember the feeling
of words spoken,
of laughter shared.
And we also remember the little
splotches,
the tiny mars on the canvas,
as pulls in thread.
Somehow the good
making it even more apparent,
bittersweet.

But the wonderful thing.
The really promising thing about
sunsets and clean slates,
is that whatever blot on the landscape
might have occurred in the day,
it is as though God says, like the painter
he is:
Ah, that bird’s wing is a little wrong
in how I’ve traced it,
tomorrow I shall paint it out,
start again.

And oh, he does,
how he does.

      1. Thanks for your replies…hope you will make a collection of your work; if so, I would do a testimonial for the cover! If you wish… I have several published books of poetry, all on amazon. Your poems speak to the heart in a mad and wildly out of control world, offering profound stillness and true inner peace as only the natural world can give…

      2. Dear Brenda, thank you. I do have books on Amazon too, not that they sell very well, the last ones are all tomes as I just write too many and don’t know how to part with them. I am ‘off’ publishing at the moment but the urge might come back. You are are so kind, and clever yourself with your own books. Well done my friend x
