A Poem: Rain from Heaven

I have a gift for you,
which like all gifts held
in the width of two hands,
is greater than the sum of its weight.

I have a gift that I give without words,
written or spoken.
Sometimes words do not bear the hearing,
or adequately carry themselves clothed.

Instead, my gift is open,
like a vessel bearing treasure unguarded,
or a stream running
down an incline.

There is something stronger and greater even
than love,
which at its best can ask for an
exchange.

There is only one thing that is truly free,
for it not being merited or deserved even.
Grace comes ever flowing,
and mercy like the rain from heaven.
