Ah, there are two ways of writing.
One to come to it educated,
so you know the literary forms,
and the tricks,
the ever twirling hoops.
And have read
the poets with the accolades,
the authors with the little big letters
after pen names.
The other is to come,
a student of no formal learning,
but with a heart and pen open,
held loosely in the palm.
Remembering the day
you first fell so unexpectedly,
and then like love
was entirely consumed.
So that now you could not get up
from the well’s floor,
for the simple matter of
needing to survive –
poetry as it is,
being manna from heaven
and the ever-flowing water
of life.

Wow, just wow! This is marvellous! You are really on fire, my friend. How I can relate to these lines:
“The other is to come,
a student of no formal learning,
but with a heart and pen open,
held loosely in the palm.
Remembering the day
you first fell so unexpectedly,
and then like love
was entirely consumed.”
They give hope to all who have had poetry running through their veins from childhood, as a necessary soul-care retreat and an inescapable part of who they are, yet have felt less than others in their offerings. All because their poetry stems purely from the heart, moved by the Spirit maybe, more than being fashioned by familiarity with particular styles, forms and techniques. 🙂 xo

Ah so true Joy, a think the mark of a true writer is that they must write regardless of an audience or not, or even there own talent. Its a necessity xx
