A Poem: Grateful

I am grateful.

Does grateful speak of longing
and reminisces.

Somehow it sounds to me
like the wind in the pines,

a soft, constant breath
in the memory.

I am grateful.

‘So’ is a small word preceding,
signalling degrees,

but there is no measure for gratitude,
nor for the breeze

running her soft fingers
through the pine needles.

And there is no need
to say more than that.

Grateful,

and when I can no longer say so
the winds will.
