A Poem: In my Heart

I am the light in the darkness.

The candle in your heart,
that will not dim.
Though the light in your life might depart,
my flame within keeps burning.

I am the length of the cross,
and also its full width.
My reach is in every direction,
and it encompasses all of the earth.

I am the bright morning star,
shining from North to South.
Though the sun leaves the world in the dark,
the light in your heart won’t be put out.

“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.”
Isaiah 42:3

Footnote:  I wrote this on a scrap of paper in the chapel at work.  After writing I turned the paper over and found a printed song ‘All I am’, with the chorus, ‘Your fire is alive in this beating heart of mine, light up this world with your love divine’.

  1. God always answers Lisa; he has proved that to you so many times; in his own way and his own time; but also sometimes instantly – which we would call life’s little miracles. Jan
